Handdukar del 1 / Towels part 1

Det finns väl ingenting som är så enkelt att förändra kök eller badrum med som ett par nya handdukar som lyser upp. Ta bara ett par enkla köpta handdukar; sy på ett fint broderi och vips så har du en unik dekorativ handduk. Jag tycker det är jättebra att ha lite kökshanddukar och gästhanddukar liggande och ta med som present istället för en blomma. Oftast blir det mycket uppskattat J

Samtidigt så är väl handdukar bland det enklaste och svåraste man kan maskinbrodera på beroende på typ, tjocklek och kvalitet och naturligtvis beroende på vad du ska brodera på den förstås. Det svåraste tycker jag är att spänna en tjock frottéhandduk i bågen, men det finns olika lösningar beroende på vilken typ av broderi du ska sy. Sen ska du välja typ av mellanlägg (stabilizer) och om du ska ha någon ”topping” typ tunn vattenlöslig plast ovanpå.

In fact towels are among the easiest and hardest things you can machine embroider on, depending on the type, thickness and quality and of course depending on what kind of embroidery you are going to use. The hardest part, I think, is to hoop a thick terry towel. But there are different solutions depending on the type of embroidery you want to do. You will also have to take stabilizer or not and "topping" (like water solouble stabilizer) or not into consideration.

Idag tänkte jag visa ett par frottéhanddukar som bygger på en teknik som är otroligt snygg i all sin enkelhet – ”Embossing”.

Första gången jag hörde ”Embossing” tänkte jag på scrapbooking för där hade jag hört ordet, men broderi ...  ”Embossing” går ju kort ut på att vissa partier ”hålls ner” så att andra framhävs - blir då ”lite högre” - och ett mönster bildas. Detta går ju utmärkt att göra på tyger som frotté och fleece. Speciellt dekorativt är det att göra ett ”Monogram” eller bokstav eller ett ord på en frottéhandduk. Tekniken är densamma – håll ner områden runt det som ska vara framträdande, i detta fall bokstaven. Det är absolut inte svårt att göra detta om du har ett Embroidery Software. Det ”svåra” är att få rätt ”täthet” beroende på typ av frotté. Eftersom ingen frotté är den andra lik så skulle jag rekommendera att köpa en extra liten gästhandduk och testar dig fram så att du får rätt densitet på stygnen. Det optimala är ju att det parti som ska ”hållas ner” gör det utan att det blir alltför stelt.

Today I will show you couple of terry towels based on a technique that is incredibly beautiful in its simplicity - "Embossing".

The first time I heard "Embossing" I immediately thought of scrapbooking where I had heard the word before, but embroidery ...  "Embossing" is, if I should describe it briefly, that certain parties are "held down" so that others will be emphasized and  - be "slightly higher" - this way it forms a pattern. This is of course perfectly possible to make on terry towels and fleece. Especially decorative, is to do a "Monogram" or a letter on a terry towel. The technique is the same - hold down the areas around the object you want to emphasize, in this case the letter. It is certainly not difficult to do this if you have an Embroidery Software. The "difficult" part is to get the right "density" depending on the type of terry towel, because no terry towel is the same. I would recommend buying an extra small guest towel and test a part of the design so that you get the right density of the stitches. The ideal is that the “embossed” part is “held down" without becoming too stiff.

 

Dessa två handdukar har jag gjort i två olika Embroidery Software och med olika variationer av stygn som ”håller ner” frottén. Tekniken är dock densamma men sen kan man ju leka med olika kombinationer av dekorativa stygn om man vill. Den röda med ”F” är gjord i 5D Embroidery Software och där har jag använt mig av en kombination av två olika dekorativa stygn. 5D Embroidery Software har ju i Design Creator dessutom en ny "fill" (fyllnadsyta) som är superbra i detta sammanhang.

Den andra röda handduken med ordet ”FEET” är gjord på ett litet annat sätt, men tekniken är densamma. Denna ”Embossing” har jag gjort i Embird som är så lätt att arbeta i och jag använder helst Embird’s Font Engine modul när jag ska arbeta med text. Detta är bas tekniken som finns beskrivet i ”beskrivningen” angivet nedan i grön text.

I have digitized the designs for these two towels in two different Embroidery Software and with different variations of the stitches to hold down the “embossed part” of the terry towel. However, the technique of how to do this is the same, but then you can “play with” different combinations of decorative stitches if you want to. The red "F" is made ​​in the 5D Embroidery Software and I have used a combination of two different decorative stitches. 5D Embroidery Software has in the Design Creator a new fill which is very useful in this case.

The other red terry towel with the word "FEET" is made ​​ a little bit differently, but the technique is the same. I made this "Embossing” in Embird, which is so easy to work with and I prefer to use Embird’s Font Engine module when I work with text. This is just the “basic technique” described in the tutorial mentioned below.

Som ni ser använder jag inget mellanlägg (stabilizer) av något slag. Jag vill att handduken fortfarande ska vara följsam även om man har ett mönster på den. Mycket bra och prisvärd och även om man inte har Embird så ger den en mycket bra referens över tekniken som sådan.

As you can see, I have not used any backing or stabilizer of any kind. I want the towel to be smooth even if you have a pattern on. For those of you who want to know how this "Embossing" is done, "Flying Needle Machine Embroidery" just published a monthly "Studio Lesson" about "Embossing" and some other techniques. Very good and affordable, even if you do not have Embird, it provides a very good reference of this technique as such.
