Hooping the towel

När jag ska brodera på en handduk brukar jag göra så här – såvida jag inte använder min Endless Hoop. Men i detta fall räckte det utmärkt med min 240x150 mm båge. Jag börjar med att spänna rivbart mellanlägg i bågen. Som ni ser använder jag en ”ram” för mellanlägg.

When hooping a towel for sewing a border I do like this – provided I do not use an Endless Hoop. In this case, I was satisfied with using my 240x150 millimeters hoop. Start by hooping tear away stabilizer in the hoop. As you can see I will use a “frame” for the stabilizer.

Varför använder jag en ”ram”? Jo, för att det sparar mellanlägg. Jag använder bara den bit som behövs för det utklippta hålet och sen sätter jag fast det med limstift som jag torkar med strykjärnet.

Why do I make a “frame”? Well, because it saves stabilizer. I only use the amount needed for the cut-out area, and then I attach it with glue stick that I dry by ironing it.

Jag börjar mäta ut var jag vill att broderiet ska vara. Här har jag att ta hänsyn till att det redan är ett ”mönster” i handduken. Jag tänker mig därför att själva stammen ska gå till den första linjen i handduken. Därför mäter jag upp halva höjden på designen från det ställe där jag vill att stammen ska börja eller sluta beroende på hur man ser det. Nåja,  stammens nedersta del ska vara där pilen är.  Jag viker upp handuken räta mot räta vid den linjen som markerar "mitten".

I start measuring where I want the embroidery to be placed. Here I have to take into consideration that there already is a "pattern" in the towel. I am thinking the stem should go to the first line in the towel. Therefore, I measure half the height of the design from the place where I want the stem to begin or end - depending on how you look at it. Anyway the bottom of the stem will be where the arrow point is. I fold the towel up right sides together at the line which marks the "middle".

Den linjen lägger jag på den vertikala mittlinjen i bågen. På bilden blir det ju den horisontella - men då måste man ta hänsyn till att bågen är vänd för att handduken ska få plats ”på bredden”.

Se även till att du mäter upp mitten på andra ledden och matchar den mot den andra mittlinjen (horisontella när bågen är i rätt läge). Jag har lagt linjalen så den matchar den linjen.

That line/fold is placed on the vertical center line in the hoop. The picture is of course showing a horizontal view but then you have to take into account that the hoop is placed like that to get the towel to fit on the width.

Also make sure you mark the middle of the towel and match it against the other middle line (horizontal when the bow is in the correct position – and of course vertical in the view we see it on the photo). I have put the ruler to match the line.

Vik försiktigt ner handduken och fäst med knappnålar utanför sömnadsytan. Lägg tunt vattenlösligt mellanlägg ovanpå. När man sen ska sy ut designen bör man tänka på hur man sparat den i dataprogrammet.

Jag valde från början 240x150 mm horisontellt läge men eftersom bågen sen sätts på broderarmen i vertikalt läge så måste jag ju rotera min design 90 grader. Sen är det bara att börja brodera bården.

Carefully unfold the towel and secure with pins outside the sewing area. Put a thin layer of water soluble stabilizer on top. Before you save your design to the media your Embroidery Machine will accept – you must consider the orientation of the design.

I have chosen to start from the horizontal position in the 240x150 millimeters hoop. But as the hoop is put in vertical position on the Embroidery arm I have to rotate my design 90 degrees. Then you can start embroidering the design border.
