Lace with a modern twist - part 4

Jag börjar med att spänna ett lager vattenlösligt mellanlägg samt tyll i min broderbåge. Här har jag använt lite tjockare genomskinligt mellanlägg. Använd gärna ”Hoop Ease” eller remsor av mattunderlägg så att tyll och vattenlösligt mellanlägg ligger still i bågen. Själv har jag här fäst med maskeringstejp på både fram- och baksida så lagren inte kan glida – det funkar det också J

I start by hooping a layer of water soluble stabilizer and tulle in my hoop. I've used a thicker transparent water soluble stabilizer. Please use "Hoop Ease" or strips of anti-slip underlay for rugs so that the tulle and the water soluble stabilizer stays put in the hoop. I have used masking tape here on both the front and back of the hoop so that the layers cannot slip – that works OK as well J

Men först till det mest spännande med detta projekt – broderierna. Här har jag börjar brodera den vackra spetsen på tyllen.

But first to the most exciting thing about this project - the embroideries. Here I have started to embroider the beautiful lace on the tulle.

Det som är roligt med dessa broderier är att det även ingår applikationer. Jag kan tänka mig att det är för att dels få fram ”skuggeffekten” men eftersom det är en del stygn ovanpå så blir det mer täckande och stadigt. Tyllen i sig är ju väldigt lös och sladdrig så det är nog bra att det kommer in lite tyg som stadga. Här är första biten påsydd och klippt. Notera även att jag efter att maskinen stannat för ”trådbyte” drar upp även undertråden. Jag gör det för att slippa eventuellt trassel på baksidan.

The fun thing with this design is that it also includes an appliqué. I can imagine that it is partly to achieve the "shadow" effect, but also to stabilize the tulle which isn’t that stable itself. So that way I think it is good to have some fabric to stabilize the embroidery. Here is the first piece sewn and cut.  Note that after the machine stopped for a "color change" I have pulled up the bobbin thread as well. I do it to avoid any “trouble”, i.e. nests, on the back.

Both lace medallions are now stitched. You can see how they face each other.

Resultatet – har ni sett något så ljuvligt. Som en riktigt gammaldags dyr spets.

The final result - have you seen anything so lovely. Like an old expensive lace.

När allt är klart tar jag bort merparten av plasten genom att hålla fingret på själva broderiet och dra längs kanterna. På bilden är ”fingret ersatt” med en sprättare.

When the embroidery is finished, I remove most of the water soluble stabilizer by holding a finger on the embroidery and drag along the edges. I have “replaced the finger” with my seam ripper on the picture.

Det bitar som bli kvar penslar jag med lite vatten blandat med sköljmedel sen sköljer jag rent med ljummet vatten. Naturligtvis kan man även klippa bort merparten av plasten och lägga tyllen i blöt i ljummet vatten med sköljmedel i. Sen hänger jag ut den på tork. När den torkat så stryker jag den med en duk emellan så den blir slät.

The pieces that remains can be “dissolved” by brushing with fabric softener mixed with water and then rinsed in lukewarm water. Of course you can also cut away most of the stabilizer and the put the tulle in lukewarm water with some fabric softener in it. Then I let it dry and finally I press it with a cloth in between the tulle and the iron.
