How to make the Pocket Tissue Case – part 1

Start by making a prototype and measure it.

Börja med en bit tyg och en förpackning pappersnäsdukar.

Start with a piece of fabric and a pack of paper tissues.

Det absolut enklaste sättet är att vika in ena sidan och pressa.  

Detta steg är ju bara för att få en rak och stabil kant.

The easiest way is to fold in one side and press. This step is 

just to get a straight and stable edge.

Vik upp den vikta sidan mot mitten av ovansidan på paketet med pappersnäsdukar. Fäst med en liten bit tejp eller knappnål.

Fold up the folded side towards the center on top of the package of paper tissues. Secure with a small piece of tape or a pin.

Vik sen upp den andra sidan - se var mitten är och överlappa 

5-10 mm i mitten.

Then fold up the other side - check where the middle is and overlap 

5-10 mm in the middle.

Vik och pressa kanten på andra sidan och klipp av med en sömsmån.  

Fold and press the edge of the other side and cut with a seam allowance.

Vik upp igen och fäst med en nål. Se till att inte göra det alltför snävt.

Beroende på antal lager av tyg och eventuell vadd kan bredd och längd 

behöva justeras. Likaså om man väjer att inte överlappa mittpartiet. 

Sedan sätter man knappnålar i kortsidorna och syr av en söm.

Prova och se att du är nöjd. Mät sedan efter detta fodral.

Fold back up again and secure with a pin. Make sure not to make it too narrowly. Depending on the number of layers of fabric and batting 

the width and length may have to be adjusted. 

Likewise, if you choose not to overlap the center part. 

Then put pins in short sides and sew a seam.

Try it out and make sure you are satisfied. Then measure after this case.

Här ser ni att de färdiga måtten är ca 13 x 7 cm hopvikt och med 5 mm – 10 mm överlappning i mitten.

Det innebär att jag kommer att klippa till en bit som är ca 20 x 25 cm. 

Det måttet får jag genom att själva fodralet är:

13+3 (sömsmåner i bäge sidor a 15 mm) =16 centimeter

7x2+1+ 3x2 (dubbel fåll a 15 mm i vardera sida) =21 centimeter

Jag kommer ha lite till godo, men kom ihåg att det är alltid lättare att klippa bort än att lägga till.

Nu kan man ju faktiskt sy detta fodral helt på en vanlig symaskin men tanken är nu att infoga ett broderi och samtidigt sy snygga broderade kantsömmar i en brodérbåge. Därför måste man stygnsätta 2 "tråckelsömsramar" och 2 dekorativa sömmar. Men mer om det i nästa blogginlägg.

Here you see the finished dimensions which are approximately 130 x 70 mm when folded and with 5 mm - 10 mm overlap in the middle.

This means that I will cut a piece that is about 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) x 25 centimeters (about 10 inches). 

This measurement is calculated like this (in centimeters - 1 cm=10 mm):

13+3 (seam allowance - 15 mm in each side) =16 centimeters 

7x2+1+3x2 (double folded edge - 15 mm on each side) =21 centimeters

I will have some extra, but remember that it is always easier to cut than to add.

You can actually sew this case entirely on a regular sewing machine, but the intention now is to incorporate an embroidery design and at the same time make a stylish embroidered stitching at the sides in a hoop. In order to be able to do that you must now digitize 2 basting frames and two decorative seams. But more on that in the next blog post.
